The development of Acuvue contact lenses began at the Frontier Contact Lens Company, a small business that began in the 1950s. It first opened a branch in Jacksonville, Florida and was run by Optometrist, Seymour Marco. Under his supervision, the company began to grow. In only a few years, Marco purchased the company from its New York owners. In the 1970s, Marco created a new material called etafilcon A, and began making soft contact lenses.
